We are starting to fill our agenda with 2019 ProBook 400 devices. After we tested the 14-inch version not while ago, now we have the ProBook 450 G6 in our office. It is not a very drastic change comparing it to the older Gen. 5 devices. In this case, it is not necessarily a bad thing, of course. Naturally, it features the latest and greatest from Intel’s ULV series. In fact, you can choose (probably depending on the region you live in) from a pretty wide Whiskey Lake

Design and construction

Once again, there is an aluminum and plastic combo in the construction materials. However, we see a more modern looking device, now that they decided to paint the base of the device in the same color as the outside. Additionally, it weighs 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) and has a 19 mm profile – all in all, a slim and relatively light 15-inch business device.

Its lid is effortless to open with a single hand, and there is not too much of a bend when a torsion pressure is applied. Here, HP offers the option of IR face recognition system, which (if it is the same as the one on EliteBook 1050 G1) should be very fast.

As we mentioned, the keyboard is exactly the same as the one on the ProBook 450 G5, meaning no backlight whatsoever, shallow keystroke, but clicky feedback. Slightly below it, there is an averagely sized touchpad, which is accurate and very responsive – quite the contrary to the firmware mess of yesteryear. Moreover, as it is often to be seen these days, there is a fingerprint reader on the right side of the base. HP has continued placing the speakers above the keyboard. This is always better since it’s a lot more difficult to cover them when the device is on your lap or on the bedsheets. Once again, the breathing spot is simplistic in the middle of the bottom plate, while the hot air blows on the left side of the laptop – tough luck left-handers.
