After our review of the 15-inch HP ProBook 455 G7 with AMD Ryzen 7 4700U, today we’ll turn our attention to the smaller 14-inch ProBook 445 G7 with AMD Ryzen 5 4500U. In our test configuration, it is equipped with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD and is not exclusively aimed at business users. Because HP offers buyers several configuration options, we also mention possible alternatives to our model variant in the affected sections.

Case – Sturdy HP laptop with webcam cover
HP manufactures the case of the ProBook 445 G7 from aluminum. Thus, the 14-inch laptop is very robust and the display doesn’t bend when the lid is opened. The maximum opening angle is 180° and all gaps are evenly and cleanly processed. In order to create enough space for the infrared cameras and the webcam shutter, HP also uses slightly wider frames above and below the display.
With a weight of about 1.6 kg, the ProBook 445 G7 belongs to the somewhat heavier devices in its class. Because the frame above and below the screen is also wider, the notebook is overall a bit deeper than the comparable devices we chose.
SD card reader
In our test with the reference memory card Toshiba Exceria Pro SDXC 64 GB UHS-II, the HP laptop achieved 72 MB/s when copying and 85.9 MB/s when reading data. Thus, it delivers good rates and can compete with the result of the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ARE05.
Communication
The ProBook 445 G7 can establish wireless connections via Bluetooth 5.0 and WLAN. HP built a Wi-Fi 6 adapter (802.11ax) from Intel into our test configuration, but a Wi-Fi 5 module from Intel and a Wi-Fi 6 card from Realtek are also available.
With our reference router Netgear Nighthawk AX 12, the HP laptop achieves an average of 817 Mb/s in data reception and 557 Mb/s in data transfer. Thus, it is fast in wireless networks but doesn’t perform quite as well as the other devices in our test field.
