The 15.6-inch, 1,920-by-1,080-resolution screen is one of the reasons why the laptop is so large. It’s pleasant to look at and has an anti-glare coating, so you can view images in direct sunlight. However, at full brightness, critical viewers will be able to see a screen-door effect, where you can see individual pixels in grids. This becomes more pronounced when you view solid colors and color gradients, as we saw when using DisplayMate’s color and gray-scale patterns. It takes a critical eye to see the pixels, but then again users with critical eyes are the primary target of high-end systems.

Our review unit came with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, which is the main operating system choice. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit is supported, but Windows 8 is not. Dell includes smart card reader that supports the included TPM 1.2 security, but there’s no fingerprint reader. The system has a 3-year warranty, with on-site service (after remote diagnosis) included.

Together, these components helped the M2800 return very good results on our tests. Its PCMark 8 Work Conventional score of 3,181 points is one of the best we’ve seen lately, indicating that the M2800 will be fast on day-to-day business tasks like spreadsheets, word processing, and video conferencing.
